In the 2004 council elections New Labour pledged in their glossy leaflet to:
"Promote positive activities for young people". TRUTH: they are closing swimming pools early, and closing educational facilities at Glyncornel Country Park.
"Review Youth Club support and provide small pots of money for young people themselves to spend". TRUTH: They are cutting grants to youth clubs and forcing many to close.
"Consult on new town centre regeneration strategies". TRUTH: Just look at Hannah Street and Station Street now! In the New Labour Porth newsletter they promised to "Campaign for the present library to be replaced as in Treorci and Tonypandy, by a modern, ground floor community library in the centre of Porth". TRUTH: This must be the quietest campaign ever; the Porth Voice team haven't seen anything happening yet, have you? If promises and pledges are made at election time we expect them to be honoured. We know Tony Blair lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. We know New Labour lied about free home care for the elderly in the Assembly elections, and we can see how much truth there was in their promises in the local elections here in Porth. FACT: You can't trust Labour. | |||
